Been looking into collars for my dog’s training sessions, and I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the options out there. My dog is energetic and sometimes gets distracted easily, so I want something effective but also safe and humane. I’ve heard about choke chains, martingale collars, and even harnesses being used for training, but I’m not sure which would be best.
What type of collar do you recommend for training purposes? What has worked well for your dogs?
Collar chaos, right? Been there with my pup, Luna. She’s a ball of energy and focus? Not her strong suit. My trainer suggested a gentle leader head collar – it looked funny at first, but wow! No more yanking on her throat, just gentle nudges on the side of her head. Made a world of difference. For a distracted pup, gentle leader is a lifesaver – comfy, effective, and fun
I recommend martingale collars. If you’re looking for something simple and humane, a martingale collar is often recommended. It offers control without the potential harm of choke chains.
For me I use gentle leads with my pitbulls. If you obtain one, be sure to desensitize him to it. But be careful since you can’t put too much strain on one of these it might be terrible for their necks, just not a good idea, but in my experience, dogs normally try their hardest to avoid being pulled at all while wearing one.
