We don’t know yet what exactly he’s allergic to, but once we start reintroducing some foods, I’ll definitely consider 1-ingredient treats. I’ll also keep you updated! I’m documenting everything on Instagram too, though I’m not sure if I can share that link here.
I found that soaking the hypoallergenic food in water, mashing it up, and then stuffing Kongs with the mixture and freezing them helped. You could also try putting the wet food in squeeze bottles (like the ones used for shampoo) and take them on walks. It works really well.
@Mary
Thanks. I’ve been thinking about trying something like that. We already use reusable deodorant rollers for walks, which is great because the dog just licks the roller instead of having to squeeze it out.
Just a reminder: use his hypoallergenic food as a treat, but make sure to take it from his regular food portion and not add extra to it.
Quick question about the muzzle; can your dog still lick through it? I was considering getting one for my dog, but I’m worried if she can still lick things like feces, it might not be worth the hassle.

It depends on the muzzle. Ours is a wire one with big gaps, but I’m adding a net with a smaller grid for outdoor use. That way, it’ll be completely food and poop proof. It’ll be detachable though, so he can still drink while wearing it. You should definitely get your dog used to the muzzle as a skill to have, though.
You can try vegan treats too. Things like fruits and veggies that your dog likes. Mine loves dehydrated sweet potatoes, green beans, raspberries, and even bananas. If you don’t want to make your own, brands like Fruitables have vegan treats. Baby food pouches are also great. My dog loves those too.
@Tracy
We’ve been experimenting with dehydrating sweet potatoes. He’s a fan of most fruits, so I’ll keep trying some new combinations.
