Anyone's dog suddenly ripping up carpet? My older dog is doing this

My dog has been ripping up the carpet for a few weeks now, and I honestly have no idea why. He’s 11 years old and has never done anything like this before. Anyone else have a dog that suddenly started doing this? He’s usually a little anxious, especially when I’m not around, but I don’t know if that’s related.

Yeah, my dog started doing that too. I think it’s just anxiety or maybe cognitive decline? Older dogs can get confused sometimes. How long has it been happening?

It’s been a few weeks now. I’m starting to worry it’s something more serious. :worried:

@Kimberly
I totally get it! My dog started doing weird things too, but it was mostly anxiety. Have you thought about trying a calming collar or something like that?

Could it be because of eyesight issues? My dog got a little disoriented when he started losing his vision. It might make him feel uncomfortable in his space.

Yeah, his eyesight has been getting worse. I’m wondering if that’s playing a part. Thanks for the tip!

Oh, for sure. Dogs do that sometimes when they’re anxious. I’d suggest maybe a crate or a playpen where he can go when he needs to chill out. Has that worked for you?

I haven’t tried the playpen thing yet. I’ll give it a shot though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Have you tried any puzzle toys? It could help keep his mind busy. My dog loves the treat-dispensing balls.

I’m going to try that! Maybe it’ll distract him enough. :sweat_smile:

I would also recommend keeping a close eye on him when it happens. It might be related to something specific that’s triggering it.

Definitely! I noticed he gets like this when the other dog gets too close to me. I’m thinking that might be it.

Ah, yeah. That could definitely make him anxious. Hope it helps to figure it out!
