Dog used to poop fast outside and now she takes 30 min

My dog just turned 1 year old and she’s always been great about going to the bathroom outside, even in the snow. She pees right away and responds to commands when I give them.

But the last 2-3 weeks have been tough. We got a foot of snow in my town, and since then, she’s been taking forever to poop. Living in an apartment means I can’t wait around for 30 minutes like I could if we had a backyard. I’m confused why this snow has suddenly affected her so much. She spends all her time digging and sniffing before finally pooping randomly. It’s not even cold for her, she just keeps digging until it happens, which is frustrating because she used to go within 2 minutes.

Any advice on why this is happening or what I should do?

The snow seems more fascinating. If you have not already done so, you can help the dog focus by walking. Walking is by far the most effective approach I have found to get my dog to poo more promptly.

After a poop, does your dog get to play or go on a stroll, or does it go back inside? It might help to make sure she gets to play for a while after pooping. In addition, a post-poop treat and even a little playtime might be beneficial.

Snow is also just a lot of fun. Wishing you luck.
