There’s no school or certification. Once I found that out, I knew that paying for one isn’t really necessary.
There are certifications. They’re not required, but trainers with KPA and IAABC certifications are fully qualified. Puppy class graduates are generally better behaved than those who don’t attend.
Watch a few videos and see what they all agree on.
Watching videos from trainers that don’t use humane methods can cause problems. It’s better to choose trainers who use scientifically-backed methods, like those recommended by the AVSAB. There are specialized trainers too, like Malena DeMartini and Julie Naismith, who focus on calm behavior.

Most people struggle with sorting out good information, and they end up hurting their dog. This advice is meant for them, not you.

YouTube has many trainers who use harmful methods. It’s important to know which trainers are harmful and avoid them. A certified trainer with humane methods is the best option for most people.
Going with a certified trainer who uses humane methods is best if you’re new to training. YouTube can work if you already know what to look for, but it’s easy to get overwhelmed with harmful advice.
