How frequently is the teeth of your dog brushed?

Hello everyone! When is the best time to brush your dog’s teeth? I’ve heard a wide range of perspectives on this; some people brush once a week, some every night as part of their personal oral care regimen, etc. Some dog owners probably don’t even do it. My five-month-old dachshund puppy and I are still working on brushing our teeth. We are giving him some goodies that have components for teeth care in the interim. His breath has been awful lately, and I’ve been wondering if brushing his teeth insufficiently could be the cause.

I belong to the never-camp. Dog 1 is really timid, and even though I’ve tried, she won’t cooperate. She chews on bones since her heart murmur prevents her from being taken to the dentist. Her teeth are in excellent condition considering her age of twelve. She does, however, have bad breath and plaque buildup on her rear teeth, which I have resolved by adding freshener liquid to her water. I should do it since Dog 2 is almost two, but I’m simply too lazy. We’re good, I think, because he chews bones and drinks the same water that we do.

Okay, slightly_smiling_face: I appreciate you alerting me to this. By the way, I’m convinced that people want to give their pets the finest care possible, therefore I’m not here to pass judgment on those who don’t brush their dog’s teeth. Although I haven’t been the most consistent brusher either, you may always reassess if the present approach isn’t working for you!

Never did this when having multiple pets. I feed them solely dog food instead of human food, and sometimes teeth-cleaning treats, but I’m not sure how useful those are. Never experienced dental decay with any of my pets. Maybe I’m not ‘awake’ enough to give my dog a brushing. My parents’ generation would have laughed me out of the house if I had brought this up.

Yes, compared to a few decades ago, expectations regarding how dogs should be treated have changed significantly. The majority, in my opinion, is true and helps extend the life of our dogs, however brushing your teeth isn’t particularly high on the list.

I brush once a day, although I don’t mind if I skip a day occasionally. I believe daschunds may have dental issues, thus brushing your puppy’s teeth on a regular basis might be crucial.

Okay, thanks so much dear :slightly_smiling_face:
