I am not sure where to start, though. I trained my dog myself, and it is mine. Even though his behaviour is not perfect, I think I raised him properly, and he behaves well overall, especially considering that I trained him entirely by myself without any prior experience. Hopefully, some people in this debate are involved in this industry or know someone who is. If this is the case, I would be very grateful for some first suggestions on proactive steps I could take to achieve this.
My buddy discovered she had a passion for training after training her own reactive rescue dog. She launched her own training company and became a Certified Training Partner of the Karen Pryor Academy. She gained a great deal of notoriety on social media by posting about her dog’s accomplishments. I’m not sure about the program in the UK because we’re in the US.
I’d find a good dog trainer in your area and attend some of their classes with your dog. Ask them about any courses, books, or videos they recommend. I did this with my trainer, and she let me observe some of her sessions. Now, I spend four hours a week helping out in different classes. She’s also suggested lots of useful resources and shared her knowledge with me.
Keep researching on your own too. Read as much as possible, look for affordable or free events and talks, and join online groups. Practice with your dog or offer to help train dogs for friends and family members.
