My Adopted French Bulldog Won’t Potty Outside – Desperate for Help

I’m at my wit’s end with my adopted French Bulldog. She’s been with us for three weeks now, and despite our best efforts, she will not go pee or poop outside. We walk her regularly, take her out every hour, and she’s crate trained. However, she still ends up soiling the house or her crate whenever we’re not watching her closely.

Her crate is the right size—just big enough for her to turn around and lay down. She holds it until nighttime and then defecates in her crate. We’ve tried everything we can think of, including positive reinforcement for outside potty, but she won’t go outside at all.

We’ve been avoiding punishment because we’ve heard it can make the situation worse. I’m really struggling to manage this, especially since I’ll be going back to work soon.

Does anyone have any advice or strategies that could help with this situation?

Because Frenchies are stubborn and not very bright (I have owned them for years and love them to the moon and back) but once the training takes they rarely forget. Be patient and persistent and take yours outside lots just for a “quick pee"

French Bulldogs can be tough to potty train due to their small bladder, stubborn nature, sensitivity to crate training, and discomfort from being a brachycephalic breed. Frequent bathroom breaks and patience are essential. Their independence and challenges with crate training require consistent, positive reinforcement and tailored approaches.
