I have an 11-week-old dachshund named Jack. A few weeks ago, he got a treble fishing hook caught in his lip, but he’s ok now. The problem is, whenever he gets excited or happy, he pees! He was doing well with potty training before, but now I’m guessing this trauma has affected him. Anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to help him?
Aw, poor Jack! I think this might be a result of his trauma. My dog did something similar when she got scared after a fall. I had to stop getting excited when I came home, just stayed calm and ignored her for a few minutes. It helped a lot!
Same here, my puppy peed whenever he got excited. We did some basic training like the potty routine and gave him more confidence. It helped reduce the accidents.

That’s a good idea. I’ve been focusing on his potty routine, but I guess I need to work more on his confidence too.
Honestly, I think it’s just part of his puppy stage. They can be a little anxious or scared, and that can cause accidents. Just keep training him, and he’ll likely grow out of it.

Yeah, I hope that’s the case! He’s still so young. Thanks for the reassurance!
I heard that some dogs have excited peeing because they’re just overwhelmed with emotions. Ignoring them for a bit when you come home could really help!

That makes sense! I’ll try not to get too hyped when I see him. Hopefully that works!
Just wanted to add—make sure you’re consistent with his potty breaks. My dog had an accident too when we didn’t stick to a schedule.

I’m working on being more consistent, so hopefully that’ll help too. Appreciate the tip!
