Having him at 8 weeks old, he is a 4-year-old Shih Tzu-57 mix. He has a Velcro effect on me. His looking doesn’t bother me, but I can actually feel him observing me all the time. I just wanted to make sure, or should I try to stop the incessant staring?
Edit: It turns out that I misspoke. I was raised with it.
Even when seated on the throne, there is zero privacy in our BC. To us, though, that’s natural because BCs are infamous for their stares. He will only look away from the human when it is about to toss the ball; else, the ball will take center stage.
My heeler feels the same way, lol. He’s constantly watching me because he needs to be the first to know if I even consider twitching because it could indicate that we’re heading outside. He gets upset if I put on socks because he thinks I might put on shoes after🤣
The path to independence is enriched. Consider moving him to a pay-for-food model. No food from a bowl; instead, all food is obtained through enrichment activities such as muffin tin games, kongs, wobblers, food scatter, snuffle mats, box and paper puzzles, and treat burritos. To help him get used to each new enrichment item you present, you can start out small by making it simple for him to sniff out rewards that are nearby and accessible. Then, you can progressively increase the difficulty and add diversity. Few dogs chew toys on their own on a regular basis unless they are offering something appetizing.
