My dog’s neck got burned by a training collar... anyone else’s dog had this happen?

I’m feeling awful right now. Came home from work to find my dog, Sophie, has a raw neck from the training collar I’ve been using. It shocks her when she barks too much, but I never thought it would cause this. It smells bad and her skin’s really raw. I’ve only had the collar on her for about a month, with some breaks in between. I’m cleaning it with antibacterial wipes, but I’m not sure if that’s enough. Anyone have any experience with this? What should I do now?

Oh no, poor Sophie! I’m so sorry to hear this happened. I’d definitely recommend getting her checked out by a vet, especially since it sounds like the collar caused a burn. You might need antibiotics or even something stronger to help with the healing process. I’d take her to the vet ASAP just to be safe.

This is heartbreaking. I’ve never used a training collar before, but this really makes me rethink it. I agree with the others, a vet visit sounds like the best move right now. And try to keep Sophie from licking or scratching at the wound until it heals.

That sounds so scary! I’ve never had this happen with my dog, but it sounds like Sophie might need some topical creams or even steroids to help with inflammation. You should definitely consult a vet. Don’t wait!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I would definitely get her into a vet to make sure she gets the right treatment. The last thing you want is an infection or something worse. :disappointed:

Oh wow, that’s awful! I don’t think the collar should have caused that, but definitely get her checked out. I’d recommend showing the vet the collar so they can advise if it’s something you should keep using. Good luck with Sophie!
