Hi
One of my dogs has a mystery allergy; they are now on a Royal Canine Hypoallergenic food and are set to begin reintroducing other proteins. We want to start with beef, and I’m wondering if we should only do muscle meat (she’s a cold press and raw-fed dog), or if we can also do beef tripe and offal? Is it all the same protein, or might she be allergic to one portion but not the others?
I’ve read that a dog allergic to chicken flesh can tolerate chicken fat in chow, therefore I’d recommend introducing one part at a time.
It would be a shame if you spent time and effort on an exclusion diet only to undo all of your hard work.
I would try Dr. Marty’s. I’ve had good outcomes, and I’ve talked to many folks who do the same.
That might work, but only if the food doesn’t contain the ingredients the dog is allergic to.
I don’t have direct experience with this, but I can offer my opinion.
I know some dogs are more sensitive than others, such as those who can’t eat chicken muscle meat but can eat chicken fat, or who can’t eat fish protein but can consume fish oil, while others can’t eat either. If they were my dog, I would start with reintroducing muscular meat and progress from there. I’m not sure if that’s a pain if you’re using the prey or BARF models.
As others have mentioned, I would start with muscular flesh. Cheaper and with a lower fat ratio than other organs, it may be easier on the stomach.
When he’s going to settle on his own, it’s usually a short, loud, shrill, complaining cry that seems to say, “Where did you go?!?” with lots of pauses in between (I assume he’s stopping to listen for me coming back, lol). But if he needs my help to settle, it’s a long, wailing “wah” cry with no breaks until I come in to help him.
The only time my baby ever screams like he’s being murdered is if I’m 0.5 seconds late with bottle service .
