Hi, this is my first post here. I have a 3-month-old Great Pyrenees/Terrier mix. I’ve had her for a month now, and she’s picked up a few tricks like sit, paw, high five, spin, and wait. We’re working on lay down, but the only way I can get her to do it is by touching the floor in front of her. The problem is, she claws my hand on the way down, and I have a slight grass allergy, so it gets really itchy when she scratches. I’ve even tried removing the treat from my hands, but the pawing keeps happening. She’s just been super handsy in general when she comes up on the couch for attention. I know she associates pawing with getting pets, so I try to push her away and say no, but she doesn’t seem to get it anymore. The only thing I have to discourage her is a bottle of rocks that makes a loud noise when I shake it, but I don’t always have it. How can I fix this pawing issue?
Aw, puppies can be so needy lol. Have you tried redirecting her to a toy instead?

Yeah, that might help. But what if she just wants your attention?

Good point. Maybe mix it up with some playtime? Like, more active stuff?
Ugh, I totally get it. My pup used to do that too. Have you thought about getting some training treats?

I’ve tried treats, but she still paws at me. It’s like she’s just too excited.
Maybe she just needs more exercise? A tired dog is a good dog, right?

That makes sense. I should take her out more often for walks.
Sounds like she’s just a little attention monster. Have you tried training her with commands before she paws?

Not really, I mostly just push her away. I’ll give that a shot.
Oh man, my dog did that too. I started using a clicker. It helped with the confusion.

What’s a clicker? Is it like a toy?

It’s just a little device that makes a clicking sound. Super easy to use.
