Petco Dog Training – Worth It?

Hey everyone,

I’m thinking about enrolling my pup in Petco’s dog training classes. Anyone here tried them out? How was the experience, and did your dog actually learn new tricks? Would love to hear your reviews!

I did the PetSmart puppy basic and intermediate, planning on doing the advanced. It was wonderful for my dog’s hyperactivity to know how to focus that energy into redirective training.

I don’t know if it’s the same as Petco, but I do know most of these are geared toward an easy step into the Canine Good Citizen programs and are usually very helpful.

Id look at it less about training and more about its benefits in socialization. You should be able to tell if the training is decent (positive reinforcement, etc), but your puppies ability to socialize in a class like that should be #1 imho.

I used Petsmart and our trainer was great!! We were one of 3 dogs (puppies) being taught, so I think class size is huge as well!! The trainer had more time to devote to each family. It was also good because it helped our puppy learn how to focus on the training with constant distraction from the other families.
