Puppy loved ham, but it's a no-go. Any treat suggestions?

I have been training my puppy for a while and discovered that using deli meat yields the best results.

He LOVES it, even though he is indifferent to most dog treats I have tried. However, I recently researched whether deli meat is healthy for him and found that it’s generally not recommended, except in very small amounts.

What are some good alternatives?

Look for wet and pungent snacks. Avoid anything that resembles a cookie.

Tricky Trainers and Zukes produce delicious moist, soft, low-calorie treats. They also break up easily, allowing them to travel long distances.

Dried sardines are fatty and stinking, yet they are a favourite high-value snack.

Based on my research, there are plenty of safe and healthy treat options for puppies besides ham. While puppies may love the taste of ham, it can actually be quite harmful for them. Ham is high in fat and salt, which can cause digestive issues, pancreatitis, and other health problems in young dogs. Instead, I would recommend trying treats made specifically for puppies, such as small pieces of cooked chicken, sweet potato, or carrots. Freeze-dried meat or fish-based treats are also a great option, as they provide protein without the added fat and salt. Puppy-friendly dental chews can help clean their teeth and satisfy their need to chew. You can even make your own healthy treats at home using simple, dog-safe ingredients. Just be sure to introduce new foods slowly and in moderation. With a little creativity, I’m confident I can find plenty of delicious and nutritious options that your puppy will love without the risks of human foods like ham. The key is focusing on treats that are formulated for a puppy’s sensitive digestive system.
