Thoughts on Dog Shock Collars?

Heey gusyss…I’m considering getting a shock collar for my dog to help with training, but I’m not sure if it’s the right choice. Has anyone used one before? Are they effective and humane? Any brands or alternatives you’d recommend? TIA

I heard a tale on the radio about a dad who was going to let his son test it out but felt he “should” try it on himself first. He claimed it stung like hell. But the kicker was that he awoke in the middle of the night with an erratic heartbeat and unusual breathing. Went to the ER. Apparently, he shocked himself in the carotid or something, which transported the shock straight down to his heart and caused severe cardiac arrhythmia. I may have died that night.

CONCLUSION? These things are not the safest to use. Explore alternative measures if you can.

I strongly advise against using a shock collar on your dog. While they might seem like a quick fix, shock collars can be harmful, ineffective, and cruel.

For me, the answer is no; they should only be used as a last resort when all other teaching methods fail. Unfortunately, I’ve had to use them on dogs who had severe separation anxiety and were willing to kill themselves. I also had their kennels on camera, so it was not your typical training session.
