Jethro Patton and I are heading into our fourth week of obedience class next week. He’s already picked up most of the skills we’re working on, but the class has been great for helping him get used to being around other dogs without losing his cool. In week one, he barked the entire 50 minutes. By week two, he only barked outside before class and was mostly quiet during it. In week three, he only barked when a tiny dog kept staring and growling at him.
For homework this week, we need to teach a new trick. He already shakes, gives high fives, and crawls. I’d love to add something new for him to show off next week. What are some of your favorite tricks that I could train him in the next week?
It’s fantastic to hear how well Jethro Patton is progressing in his obedience class! For a new trick, you might consider teaching him to “spin” or “twirl.” This trick involves Jethro spinning in a circle on command and can be a fun and impressive addition to his repertoire. Another great option is “play dead,” where he lies on his side and remains still, which can be a crowd-pleaser. Both tricks are relatively easy to teach in a week with positive reinforcement and practice. Enjoy showing off his new skills!
