Our vinyl fence is 4.5 feet high and has a wire running the entire length of it. He used to be able to fit his body beneath it and still digs underneath it.
How do I put an end to this digging? I tried cayenne pepper about a year ago, but I had to use a ton of it to cover the fence, and it didn’t stop him either.
Is there a substance I can add to the ground surrounding the fence to discourage digging? We have fenced in roughly 3/4 of an acre, therefore I need a long-distance, reasonably priced solution.
Try adding a barrier like chicken wire or hardware cloth at the base of your fence. Just bury it a bit in the ground to create a “dig deterrent” zone. It’s kind of like giving your fence a little underground shield. I’ve used this trick before, and it worked like a charm. Plus, it’s budget-friendly and easy to install.
To stop your dog from digging under the fence, bury chicken wire, rocks, or large stones at the base. You can also extend the fence underground by burying wire mesh or concrete a few inches deep to block digging attempts.
