Why is my dachshund suddenly whining through the night...?

Hey everyone, my one-year-old dachshund, Rosie, just started whining through the night. This started yesterday, and I’m not sure why. I did recently start using a bark collar during the day (set to the lowest level), but I always take it off at night. She’s eating and drinking fine but seems more ‘sooky’ than usual. Could the collar have scared her, or should I be looking for other changes around the house? Any ideas?

It might be the collar scaring her a bit. Even if it’s off at night, she could still associate it with discomfort. Maybe give her a break from it for a few days?

Good idea, I’ll try leaving it off for a while. Do you think I should move it somewhere out of her sight too?

Yeah, definitely! Keep it out of sight and maybe even out of the house for a bit. She might calm down quicker that way.

Was there any loud noise or change in the environment? My dog acted weird once because of nearby construction.

Hmm, not that I’ve noticed, but I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks for the suggestion!

No problem! Sometimes it’s the smallest thing like a new smell or sound. Hope Rosie feels better soon!

What does ‘sooky’ mean? Is she just whining or showing other signs of being upset?

Oh, ‘sooky’ is like being extra clingy or sensitive. She’s mostly just whining though, nothing else major.

Gotcha! Makes sense. Maybe she just needs extra cuddles right now?

I’d also check her neck area just in case the collar caused any irritation. Dogs can be sensitive even to light pressure.

Good point! I didn’t notice anything earlier, but I’ll double-check. Thanks!

You’re welcome! Hope Rosie gets back to her normal self soon.

When my pup acted like that, it was because of a new piece of furniture. Any recent changes at home?

No big changes, but I’ll think about anything small that might have been different lately. Thanks for the tip!

No worries! Sometimes it’s the tiniest thing they pick up on.
