I have a 10-month-old Cavalier and he’s been biting at the air like he’s chasing something, but there’s nothing there. It started last week, but tonight it’s been happening non-stop. Has anyone’s dog done this? Any ideas on what it might be or how I can help him?
My dog does this too, especially when he gets excited. Could be a thing called ‘fly biting’… basically, it’s like they’re chasing invisible bugs . Have you asked a vet about it?

I think I’ve heard about that! Is it a seizure thing or something else?
@montenio
Yeah, it’s called ‘focal seizures,’ but there’s also a chance it’s just a weird behavior. You should check with the vet for sure. They can help figure it out!
I had the same thing happen with my Cavalier, and it turned out to be related to his ear infection. Maybe Charley’s issue could be the same?

Oh wow, didn’t think of that! Charley’s ear infection could be why. I’ll mention it to the vet.
Did he get any meds recently? Sometimes meds can mess with them and cause weird behaviors like this.

He got an ear treatment last week, but I didn’t think it would cause this. Could it?
@Liam
Yeah, sometimes those meds can cause weird side effects. Maybe check with the vet about it just to be safe.
I think it’s pretty common in Cavaliers. They have some unique health quirks, but it’s worth getting checked. Try not to stress too much though!
This sounds like the ‘fly snapping’ thing I read about. If he’s not having any other problems like stumbling or pain, it could just be that. But definitely keep an eye on him.
