I got a Yorkie mix last February, but now I’m wondering if he could be a Havanese instead. He’s got that curly, silky coat, and his face is so cute. He’s also super playful, but wow, he chews EVERYTHING. I have to keep shoes, glasses, and hairbrushes out of reach! Anyone else’s dog like this? Any ideas on how to train this chewing habit out of him?
Lol, my dog chewed my glasses too! It’s like they have a sixth sense for what’s most expensive. I’d say he could definitely have some Havanese in him. My friend’s dog is a Havanese and looks super similar.
I don’t think it’s just a puppy phase either. My dog still chews everything, even at 3 years old. But I started using an ultrasonic trainer and it helped with his barking.
I’ve got a similar issue with my dog chewing stuff, but I started using a variety of chew toys, and he seems to get less interested in the random stuff. It’s all about finding the right ones that keep them engaged!
It sounds like you’re doing the right thing by keeping things out of his reach. That’s key. And yeah, the chewing should die down once he matures a bit more, but it can take a while.
He sounds like a little ball of energy! Havanese are known for being affectionate, so maybe the playful side is part of that. The chewing phase might just be his puppy personality, too. Just keep training him with those toys!
