Burn out signs? Could my fur baby be burnt out?

After staying with a friend’s family for 5 days, my 4-year-old GSD has been sleeping more, showing less interest in play and walks, but is still eating, drinking, and jogging normally. I am starting to wonder if my dog is just tired from all the activity or if the behavior change is a concern. Has anyone experienced this before? Should I be concerned?

Uhmm… I don’t think there should be any cause for alarm, my sister’s dog behaves that way too when my sister goes out of town and leaves her with a sitter. She is always so exhausted and just sleeps eats and goes outside to take a piss or dump. I think the change in environment, people, and routine just tires them out. Your dog should be fine. Just let him get well rested.

Hey @Lizzah what’s your living situation like? Do you stay alone? If yes, then that could probably be the reason why the dog’s behavior has changed. Your dog might have had so many people to play with and engage him at your friend’s family, that he actually is starting to miss them. Just give him time to adjust, he’ll be fine.

OMG @Luka Now that you mentioned… Yeah, I stay alone and my friend’s family is made up of 8 individuals. 4 teenagers who really love dogs and 4 adults. I think this should be why. Thank you so much for the insight.

Yeah right, I thought so too. The dog might just be missing the great company he had at her friend’s family. But in case the behavior doesn’t change in a week, she should consult her vet.

Lol, I think it’s normal. My partner calls it “hangover”  our dogs, we’ve got 2, after a playdate with our family’s dogs or even a day at the beach are exhausted and need a day or two to recover.
