Dog is peeing in house on purpose

Numerous publications I have read claim that this is untrue, yet my experience is otherwise. Last night, my potty-trained 2.5-year-old dog did something out of the ordinary. He wanted to go downstairs so he could sleep in a separate bed, as he does quite frequently. He went to the office, stared at me, lifted his leg, urinated, and then bounded off, waving his tail, instead of going to the living room.

I assumed it was a onetime mishap, but the following evening it occurred once more. I told him “no,” but he wanted to go downstairs and kept doing it even after I made sure he went to the bathroom before bed. It appeared as though he was playing a game and wanted me to pursue him.

His routine has not changed, and he does not have a bladder infection or anxiety. Why this seems to be a fresh game for him baffles me.

My male dog began casually urinating in front of me in the house two weeks ago. When I took him to the vet, his urine pH was elevated even though there were no indications of a UTI (negative quick test). After we started taking antibiotics, the urination ceased. Always rule out medical issues first.
