I’m really struggling to a) find my own drive to train and walk my two dogs, and b) have an actual training plan in place.
I have ADHD and would benefit from having anything written/written down so that I can go back and review stages and measure progress. Has anyone done this before and could help me? Or lead me in the direction of where I may find a timetable outline? Any suggestions for constructing one?
My energy level is quite low right now, which I know is contributing, but I have a couple weeks off beginning next week and plan to have something in place to begin working on daily!
I recently bought and downloaded a dog training journal from Etsy. It’s very basic and cost just over a dollar. It has space to write the command/activity/trick, how long you worked on it, and how often you rewarded. The table has about 6 or 7 lines for entries, with room at the bottom for notes. It was instantly available to download, and I printed it off and put it in a binder. You can also edit it digitally and save it as a document, but I prefer working with a paper copy. There are tons of other downloadable options on Etsy for various prices.
I have ADHD-like tendencies now, after a brain injury, so I know exactly what you’re going through. Hopefully, you can find a journal that helps motivate you and keeps you focused. It also helps me to remind myself, “I’m doing this for the puppy’s sake. Growing up knowing the rules and what’s expected of him will help him be healthier and happier. It’s for his sake.” I don’t know if that part will help you, but it does for me! Good luck!
I recently read the book Puppy Training in 7 Easy Steps, which provided excellent information, including a step-by-step plan that I found really useful.
