Hey dog-lovers,
I’m thinking about signing up my pup for dog training classes at Petco. Has anyone here tried their programs? Would love to hear your experiences and if you think it’s worth it.
Thanks a lot!

We’ve completed 12 weeks of training (Puppy 2/Adult 1) at our nearby Petco, and the experience has been incredibly beneficial. Our trainer, who owns several dogs herself, brings extensive expertise to each session. Rather than strictly following a manual, she customizes the class based on each dog’s needs and allows us to prioritize specific areas for improvement.
I don’t have any professional training experience, but I can tell you that Petco’s training program focuses on positive reinforcement and covers the fundamental skills for dogs. It’s frustrating when pet parents fail to reinforce good behaviors at home, rendering your lessons ineffective, as I’ve been informed by multiple trainers. There may also be a fair amount of phone tag involved, and you’ll be expected to assist on the floor during times when you don’t have a class. Two trainers I have a personal connection with brought up the topic of intense burnout, so it’s something to be mindful of.
