How can I keep my dog calm?

Hi! I’m currently remodeling my house, so I have to keep my dogs in my room. The issue is that Cookie gets very nervous and stressed by the noise and voices of the builders, leading him to cry or bark. I’m worried he won’t be able to calm down, especially since I work as a slot streamer and can’t be with him all the time, which adds to my concern. Can you recommend something to help keep him calm and relaxed? I take him for his daily walk, but it doesn’t seem to reduce his energy. I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Since it’s just for a limited time, see if you can find Scullcap and Valerian tablets for dogs (an herbal medicine you may get online or over the counter).

Maybe you’ve tried it, but a Kong loaded with frozen peanut butter and ground-up kibble would keep him occupied?

And have you tried taking him out of the room for a proper introduction to the staff as soon as they arrive? Have them give him snacks and pet him for 5 minutes every time they come into the house. Perhaps if he has met them, he will feel less nervous.

These are just the first things that come to mind.

Thank you for your guidance, Cookie, and I appreciate the information. Have a good day.

Perhaps a daycare during the contractors’ presence on-site, or at least for a portion of the time.

You could also use the “Bach” RESCUE REMEDY for comfort and confidence. It’s another herbal medicine that benefits some dogs!

Have you ever tried putting a T-shirt on the dog? I’ve tried this in harsh weather and it works wonderfully.

I don’t believe a T-shirt will be effective.
However, there is something known as a “Thunder Shirt”. It’s not a t-shirt, but rather a wrap that you put on the dog, which wraps tightly around the dog and can help calm some dogs during storms. A T-shirt this tight would be really uncomfortable for the dog.

I believe if the OP already had a Thunder Shirt, it might be worth a go, but I doubt it would help because it is not the noise alone that is causing the dog to be agitated, but the fact that there are unfamiliar people in the house producing that noise.
