My four-month-old puppy and I are now training her to go in the shower so I can wash her. Thus far, she will enter, sit for a minute, and then want to leave again. I am taking it slow and training for a little while every day. Mostly just serving the food and sweets while she is inside.
When she grows up, I think she will weigh 30 kg.
How should a huge breed dog be bathed and cleaned? Do they take a shower after this? The bathtub? In such case, how would you get them to get in the bath? Do you wash them outside?
My puppy like to swim in creeks, dams, and lakes, therefore I am considering giving up on the shower and trying to wash her in the bathtub.
Gradually introduce her to the bathtub by using treats and positive reinforcement. Make the experience enjoyable by placing toys or special treats in the tub. Use a non-slip mat to provide stability. Once she’s comfortable, rinse her gently with a handheld showerhead or a cup.
I simply apply a lickable substance to the wall and allow them to proceed while I wash them. I join them in the shower and shut the door to keep them out. If you do not already have one, place a hair catcher over the drain.
There is a dog wash station in my neighbourhood Pet Supplies Plus. They handle the mess and offer hoses, supplies, and dryers for a little cost; I haven’t used them yet. When my puppy grows bigger and I can no longer bring her into the tub by herself, it sounds like a nice idea.
