How to introduce a new baby to our 2 dogs?

My wife is due with our first child at the end of June. We have two Rottweilers: a 10-year-old, 110lb dog and a 10-month-old, 80lb puppy.

The 10-year-old isn’t an issue. She is well-trained, sleeps most of the day, and is good with kids, understanding her size.

Our concern is the 10-month-old. She is always had our older dog as a playmate and has had some puppy training. While she’s pretty well-trained, she still has recall issues. She’s great with other animals but doesn’t understand her size or personal space, often standing on feet and leaning into people for pets. She also loves licking anything hands, feet, faces. She’s especially excited when toddlers visit.

What tips do you have to establish boundaries and improve her body awareness?

I love the idea of giving the dogs their own safe space. We don’t have kids in the house but other family members have kids that come over occasionally. Our shepherd loooves kids but, like most shepherds, he is a firm believer in knowing where all humans are at all times which is hard when kids are running around and after about thirty minutes he kind of looks at us like “this is exhausting. Can they go home now?” And he has his safe spot to go in where he won’t be bothered and can chill out without worrying about herding everyone into the same room.

Hello, Please ensure your dogs have a solid foundation in commands like sit, stay, and leave it.This will help manage their behavior around the baby.
