Bringing home a puppy is amazing, but all the training advice can be confusing. From what I’ve learned, positive reinforcement is key. Reward good behavior with treats, praise, or toys to make them want to do it again. Keep training sessions short and fun, like 5-minute bursts, so your pup doesn’t get bored. Consistency is important too, so everyone in the house uses the same commands and routines. Watch out for punishment-based training, it can backfire and make them scared or anxious. With patience, positive reinforcement, and a happy tone, you’ll build a strong bond and raise a well-behaved pup.

The first thing you need to teach him is to pay attention to you. You can accomplish this by teaching him his name (have him glance at you when you speak it) or by giving him a “watch me” command. Then I urge sitting, down, coming, and waiting. However, without the ability to capture and maintain his attention, you will have a difficult time teaching anything else!

You should major on positive reinforcements. Use treats, praise, or playtime as rewards when your puppy exhibits good behavior. This encourages them to repeat those behaviors.

I recommend applying short training sessions. Keep sessions brief (5-10 minutes) to maintain your puppy’s attention. Puppies have short attention spans, so frequent, shorter sessions work best.

The best method to train your puppy is to embrace consistency. Use the same commands and gestures for specific behaviors. Consistency helps your puppy learn what you expect.
