My dog is a 2-year-old Aussie mix (maybe some husky in there too). He’s been super reactive on the leash since we got him. He goes wild at the sight of any rabbit or squirrel, and he gets reactive to other dogs from pretty far away. I’ve tried a bunch of non-aversive methods because I’m not into prongs or e-collars. The best I’ve done is making him earn the walk by stopping him if he pulls too much. But honestly, some days feel like a never-ending battle. Anyone else dealing with this? What have you found that helps?
I totally get you. My dog used to do the same. Have you tried using treats to keep his focus on you?

Yeah, I’ve heard about that. But how do you keep them engaged during the walk?
Ugh, I feel you. My pup was so bad, I had to switch to a front clip harness too. It helps a bit.

Yeah, it’s like a quick fix but not a solution, right? Just makes it easier to manage the pulling.
Have you thought about working with a trainer? Sometimes they can help with these behaviors.

I’ve considered it. Just not sure if I can find someone who uses positive methods.
I trained my dog to ‘heel’ on command. It took a lot of patience, but now he walks much better.

What does ‘heel’ mean, though? I’m not familiar with that term.

It’s just getting them to walk right next to you instead of pulling ahead. Super useful.
I hear you. Some days I just give up and cut the walk short because it’s too much.

Right? It’s frustrating when they can’t just chill and enjoy the walk.
