Looking to add a Cane Corso... Male or Female?

I currently have 8 dogs, I’m looking to add one more. I have 5 females and 3 males, they all get along just fine. Do you think I should add another male or female? The breed I am going to get is a cane corso. Any thoughts?

Hey! I think it depends on your pack’s dynamics. Since your females are easygoing, you could go with either, but if your dominant dog is the male Golden, a female might fit in better without disrupting the flow. Just make sure to do proper introductions!

@Gideon
Yeah, I’ve heard Cane Corsos can be pretty dominant, especially the males. But I think a laid-back female would mesh better with your group. Still, introducing them gradually will be key.

I agree with DEF. Cane Corsos, especially the males, can sometimes try to challenge other dominant males. Since your Golden is the most dominant, a female might be less likely to cause tension.

Good point! I hadn’t thought about that. So even though the female Cane Corso might be less dominant, it’s still important to watch out for the teenage phase, right?

Yep, that’s when they test boundaries. But as long as you start with training early, they’ll usually settle into their role in the pack. Cane Corsos are known for being protective, but they’re good at respecting hierarchy if trained well.

I had a Cane Corso puppy and it was challenging for a while with the pack. It took time, but with clear leadership and structure, they found their place. Puppies are definitely easier to mold, so it sounds like you’ll be fine!

@Jackson
That’s reassuring! I plan on starting obedience as soon as I get the puppy. Hopefully, it’ll fit right in!

Just to add, the socialization part is key. If you start early, they’ll learn the pack’s boundaries and won’t try to push them too much. Cane Corsos grow into great family dogs if trained properly.

I have a Cane Corso and started obedience from day one. Now she’s part of the pack and respects the older dogs. If you can get a puppy, it’ll be way easier to integrate them into the group.
