My dog does not want to poop in front of me

My dog refuses to poop in front of me, and it’s driving me crazy! I’ve tried everything to train her to go outside. Sometimes we walk for an hour, but as soon as we’re back home, she waits until I’m out of sight and goes inside. I clean the floor daily to eliminate the smell, but she keeps returning to the same spot. I’m thinking maybe if my son walks her, she might be more willing to go outside.

Was she ever given a reprimand for using the restroom at home? If so, she probably just discovered that it is not a good idea to urinate in front of people. Try letting her have extra leash length (such as a cotton training line) so she has more space to find privacy and move around. Additionally, make sure to use an enzymatic pet odour eliminator—not just any old home chemical—when cleaning up spills. Ask the staff at the pet store where you may pick it up.

She was most likely adopted by her original owner. That leash is a great concept, and I’ll give it a shot. Regards.

I agree; when my dog was with me on a regular lead, he had serious problems going potty or peeing. We started with a pretty long lead—possibly eight meters—and progressively closed it. We are now problem-free. If he felt like it, he would probably urinate on my feet right now.

canines are at their most vulnerable when pooping, hence some canines are afraid or uncomfortable pooping in unusual places or settings, or when it’s dark, etc.
