Although this is what dogs typically do, it seems absurd in this instance. He constantly and everywhere licks everything. The most infuriating situation is when he licks people, as many people find it unpleasant to have their dog lick them. How am I going to quit doing this?
It’s probably consoling. It sounds like your dog is either anxious (which exercise can help lessen), needs more stimulation (which helps reduce but probably not fix), or, regrettably, is probably compulsive. Terriers and other smart motivated dog breeds frequently succumb to compulsive behaviors. On this site, I’ve observed several individuals using medication to treat compulsive behaviors like licking.
That’s unfortunate, is there any damage in licking? Just let the dog lick your face.
To me, the harm is similar to any compulsive behavior. You know, what’s the harm in someone having to turn on and off the light twenty times before they leave the room?
I can’t really respond to that because I don’t work with obsessive-compulsive dogs very often, although it is a typical occurrence. People’s perspectives and approaches to it can simply differ greatly
I simply believe it’s terrible how people treat dogs these days, giving them psychiatric medications like Prozac. These dogs don’t get enough exercise or a healthy diet, just like the kids who were and are being given a lot of medication. and for that reason, they’re all messed up.
The puppy I own is a year old. She also does this; I had thought that she would get over it.
Not many objects are genuinely licked by my dog. However, she constantly licks me and other people. She will constantly lick my hand when I give it to her.
Maybe she believes she’s grooming me because she also licks herself from time to time. She even licks me after I wash my hands or take a shower, so it’s not like I have food on my hands.
She is a year or so old.
