Suddenly... our puppy started whining at night?

Our puppy was sleeping just fine in her crate for a few weeks, but now she’s suddenly whining and even barking at night. She’s an English Retriever and poodle mix (12 weeks old). Has anyone else had this happen? Tips?

Our pup did the same thing around that age! Could be separation anxiety kicking in. We put an old shirt with our scent in her crate, and it helped calm her down.

Oh, interesting! I’ll try that tonight. Did she get over it eventually?

Yeah, after a week or so she stopped. I think it’s just a phase they go through!

Try covering her crate with a breathable blanket! It creates a little ‘den’ and makes her feel more secure.

Good idea! I’ll give it a shot. Anything else you added to the crate?

We gave her a safe chew toy, too. Keeps her busy and helps her settle.

Might be a growth spurt or just adjusting to being alone. Puppies go through phases like this. Maybe try a treat-dispensing toy to keep her distracted?

Treat-dispensing toy… that sounds helpful! Thanks for the suggestion.

Make sure the crate is still a cozy space. We added a blanket and sometimes put on calming music.

Music! I hadn’t thought of that. Do you play it all night or just to help her fall asleep?

@Channel
Just while she’s settling down. We turn it off once she’s asleep!

Totally normal for puppies her age. Our vet said it’s a phase, so just keep being consistent with her bedtime routine.

Thanks for the reassurance! I was worried it might be something more serious.
