My 6-year-old GSD is very well-behaved, but we never really focused on leash training. She’s amazing off-leash with great recall, but the moment she’s on a leash, she starts pulling nonstop. Until now, my husband has been the one walking her since he’s the only one who can handle her—she’s 100 pounds, and I’m only 120, so she can easily pull me off my feet. However, my husband’s new work schedule makes it harder for him to walk her, and I’d like to be able to do it myself. Any tips on where to start with leash training?

We use pronged collars for walking, and they’ve been really helpful. My wife can easily manage our 105 lb pup with it. I don’t have a specific brand to recommend, but maybe someone else can suggest one?
My big guy was a puller too. Start with a harness that discourages pulling (like a front-clip one). When she pulls, stop walking. Only go when the leash is slack. Be patient and reward her when she’s walking nicely. It’ll take time, but you’ll both get the hang of it.
