Tips for Potty Training a Rescue Dog?

Hey everyone,

I recently adopted a rescue dog who’s still figuring out the whole potty training thing. It’s a bit of a challenge, especially with their past, so I’m looking for any advice or techniques that might help make the process smoother.

What’s worked for you with a rescue? Any tips for helping them adjust?

set a plan for her based on how well she is doing. Take her outside every hour at first and wait a few minutes to see if she goes. As things get better, add more time between trips.

Educate her on a schedule based on her progress. Begin by taking her out every hour, lingering for a few minutes to see if she leaves, and gradually increasing the time between trips as things improve.
Reward her any time she does business outside. If she pees, give her a reward. If she poos, give her a reward.

Hey,
For potty training a rescue dog, establish a consistent routine, take them outside frequently, use positive reinforcement, and monitor for signs of needing to go. Be patient and avoid punishment; focus on encouraging good behavior.

It sounds like your pup has gone through a lot of changes. I’d give it more time. It’s only been 2 days. Your pup is still getting used to you and your home. He doesn’t understand you’ve given him a new home yet.
