My partner and I decided not to let our 4-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix on our bed or couches anymore because he was getting too possessive about them. We’re looking for a good bed where he can have his own cozy space and get to do his natural digging and nesting thing, but it’s tough to find something that really works for dogs like him.
He has this habit of digging into the carpet before he lies down, which we don’t mind, but not when it’s the carpet, obviously. We’ve thought about cave-style beds, but he’s not a fan of being under blankets or enclosed. He just loves to dig and nest in open spaces.
Does anyone have any suggestions for beds that might suit a digger and nester like him?
My dog is a digger too. We got a bed with raised sides and put a blanket inside, and he loves it. In winter, I use a plush blanket, and in summer, I swap it out for a thin sheet. He gets to dig around without hurting the bed, and it keeps him busy.
I got my dog a Kuranda bed with that heavy-duty vinyl material. It took him a bit to get used to, but now it’s his favorite! It’s been super durable; even with all his digging, there’s no damage. I usually put a comforter on it at home, and it’s easy to clean. We even take it camping; it’s like his own portable space. Definitely recommend for diggers.
I went with a $10 throw blanket as a bed, and my dog loves ‘making his bed’ every night! If it’s too small, just grab a couple. Works great and way cheaper than most dog beds out there.
