What do you think about dogs sniffing and licking each other's ears? 3.5

My 4-year-old pup has always been fascinated with other dogs’ ears, especially when we encounter them on walks. When we stop to greet other dogs, he often sniffs their ears, which sometimes leads to licking. While this can be cute and seem like a mutual display of affection, I’ve noticed that some dogs are not comfortable with it.

I’m trying to understand if this behavior is a sign of dominance or simply affection. Additionally, I’m wondering if there’s a way to prevent this behavior, especially when I recognize a dog that didn’t respond well to it in the past.

it maybe a sign of courtship or affection

Dogs lick themselves to clean, but they can’t reach their ears. So, sniffing and licking ears is a way for dogs to help each other groom and keep their ears clean. This can even help remove ear mites!
